The Unity Centre accessibility
Unity Centre aims to be fully accessible to all, including wheelchair users and people with reduced mobility.

Accessible to all
Getting in
Because our building is old, with a need to conserve its heritage, and the main front door is reached by old stone steps from a narrow pavement by a busy road, we cannot fit an accessible entrance at the front. However, our Broomans Lane entrance is fully accessible and offers
- a disabled parking space directly beside the entrance; as there’s only one space, please contact us if you would like to reserve it (free of charge).
- a specially wide doorway, ramp and fitted handrails for step-free, wheelchair-accessible and well-thought-through entry to the building.
Inside
Inside the Centre
- everything is on one level with no stairs
- all door widths are accessible by wheelchair (except the sauna)
- we have a large, wheelchair-accessible toilet.
For those who are partially sighted or with visual impairments, we have taken care with colour choices throughout the centre. We also welcome assistance dogs.
From time to time, we have specialist yoga and bodywork equipment available with specialist teachers, facilitators and massage therapists available. We also, from time to time, run classes and offer treatments for people with a range of specific disabilities and illnesses including Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinsons, Arthritis, Heart Conditions, Stroke, Diabetes and people with a wide range of mobility issues.
Floatation can be particularly beneficial for a number of conditions and we provide a double-width, open float pool that avoids many of the disadvantages of floatation tanks and is large enough to accommodate two guests at a time, one of whom might be a carer or assistant.
Generally
We offer free entry to carers or personal assistants (though personal use of facilities by carers or personal assistants is chargeable).
We do not make assumptions about our guests, nor our staff or volunteers, based on appearance. We welcome the hidden disabilities sunflower lanyard and we recognise how disabilities and diversities can exist but not be apparent.
We have liaised with Lewes Access Group and Seeability to ensure our Centre is inclusive and accessible to all.
